The Research

What happens when
sound becomes physical?

Low-frequency sound can become vibration you feel through the body. Researchers are studying what happens next, from changes in heart-rate patterns and brain activity to shifts in relaxation, attention, and perception.

Sound you can feel

Some things just click
once you feel them.

Vibroacoustic stimulation sends low-frequency sound through a physical surface, such as a table, chair, bed,
or mat.

You hear the sound through your ears. You also feel part of it through the body as vibration.

What researchers are seeing

A few findings keep getting our attention.

01

The vibration stopped. Changes in heart-rate patterns continued.

  • Quiet rest and vibration both slowed heart rate.
  • Only the vibration condition showed significant HRV changes 30 minutes later.
  • The pattern was consistent with greater parasympathetic activity.

02

Relaxation showed up in more than one signal.

  • Participants reported significantly greater relaxation afterward.
  • Researchers also tracked EEG, cardiovascular signals, and skin conductance.
  • Combined physiological signals classified relaxation states with 80% accuracy.

03

Changing the visual condition changed how the music felt.

  • Participants heard emotionally evocative music with and without rhythmic 10 Hz light.
  • With the light, reported music-evoked emotion increased significantly.
  • Greater perceived flicker intensity tracked with greater emotional arousal.

More than one way to look at an experience

What you feel, what the body does, and what you notice are all part of the picture.

Where Still Point enters the picture

Research studies the parts.
Still Point composes the experience.

Still Point {technodelic} Studio is a Dallas/Fort Worth experiential wellness studio combining physical vibration, sound, binaural audio, rhythmic light, breath, and focused awareness.

Research examines many of those ingredients separately. Still Point brings them together deliberately through sequence, environment, and attention.
